The idea of using paper as secondary packaging is not new. KHS first tested this about 20 years ago. At the time, this technology did not become popular. However, because paper is a cost-intensive raw material and packaging containers with film will produce better results, the beverage industry has chosen different systems and solutions.
But in today's world, customers need alternatives to common packaging systems such as films, and these systems should be as environmentally friendly as possible. To meet this demand, KHS Group has added a more environmentally friendly system to its product portfolio. With its Innopack Kisters pallet packaging machine, the system supplier can now pack food and beverage cans in paper. The new technology provides an alternative to shrink film or wrap-around cartons. Regarding stability, the result is the same, but compared to cardboard, it uses less energy and materials and costs less. With some small adjustments, existing machines can also be converted to this new setting. This type of packaging can replace shrink film or wrap-around carton packaging, transported or sold in 12 or 24 cans at a high capacity range of up to 90,000 cans per hour.
Compared with other materials, paper packaging cans have many advantages:
In order to pack cans in paper instead of film, only a few adjustments to the Innopack Kisters pallet packaging machine are required. KHS Group is increasingly providing modular systems and solutions to realize and simplify the appropriate conversion of machines. In this case, KHS simply redesigned the folding and packaging process modules. The standard components such as separation, gluing or paper feeding of the tray and the magazine are the same as the existing KHS machines on the market. This allows beverage manufacturers to simply modify the pallet packaging machines already in operation in their factories by adjusting certain modules, eliminating the need for new investments.
