what to do if your screen protector comes off? - Gearrice

On the previous generation of Samsung’s folding smartphone, many users worried about the procedure for changing the screen protector. On the occasion of the release of the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 4, we took stock of the brand.

Just imagine. You have just spent six months on your honeymoon with your brand new folding smartphone from Samsung, either a Galaxy Z Fold 4 or a Galaxy Z Flip 4. And then one morning, a detail on the screen catches your eye. At first you don’t want to pay attention to it. You hope that by not thinking too hard about it, it will be gone by tomorrow. Except that the next day, the problem seems to have worsened. That’s it, the plastic film of your screen is starting to wear off. And now that’s all you think about.

Do not panic. You are not the first or the first to whom this has happened. Far from it, several people have posted their concerns on the Samsung forums.

Another netizen, RuBy_67 shares the damage to his protective film (first thinking it was his screen) day after day. It is stated that the phone is not a year old.

Here are all the grievances of Internet users regarding this problem:

But then what to do? Unless there is a contraindication on a particularly fragile model, in which case you should already be informed, let’s say the following: you can remove the plastic film from your phone. Of course, if you want to maximize the life of your screen without scratching, it may be a good idea to keep it on for the first few months. But, inevitably, there will come a time when wear and tear will get the better of him. This will not prevent your phone from working perfectly normally.

We asked Samsung to react to the various messages published on its forum. Here is their response:

“Regarding the protective film, as on a “traditional” smartphone, in the event of damage, it is possible to remove it while continuing to use your foldable smartphone normally and benefit from the same performance. » Simply put, don’t be scared if your movie goes away, even Samsung tells you it’s no big deal. On the other hand, one can wonder about the interest then of leaving a somewhat anxiety-provoking message when the telephone is switched on.

Even if you want to replace the film, Samsung strongly urges you to go through them. “While it is possible to apply a new protective film yourself, we recommend that you call on an authorized Samsung center for optimal results. »

Another subject of concern for anyone who would like to change their film: do they really have to do without your precious smartphone for five days? From what Samsung tells us, yes. “Today, the average time observed is 5 days, including the return transport of the smartphone to the repair center, but we are working to offer replacement of the protective film in our approved local network. » Clearly, Samsung is working to improve the waiting time, but for now, we will have to be patient, because the approved centers cannot repair the film themselves. They are forced to send it to Samsung repair center. For such a small operation, it would be nice if Samsung found a slightly more practical solution.

This is where it gets a little complicated. Some netizens have reported that Samsung tends to ignore the warranty when the device is even a little scratched or damaged. From what Samsung is telling us, that seems perfectly true.

“During the warranty period, any repair on a Samsung smartphone, including changing the protective film, is supported free of charge when the use of the product complies with the conditions stipulated in the warranty (for example, the smartphone must not show any trace of impact or breakage). »

One can legitimately wonder about this policy. Is it legitimate to charge for an intervention on the screen film if the phone is damaged in a place unrelated to it? In addition, no price list is available on the Korean giant’s site, which would help users to decide.

Some testimonials mention, for example, very prohibitive costs such as 400 euros, or 30 euros in diagnostic costs or 59 euros in deductible. As you will have understood, the problem is not so much that Samsung charges for out-of-warranty after-sales service, but the lack of information that leads some buyers to discover a fairly expensive invoice afterwards. On this, Samsung has progress to make. In short, the more questions you can ask before sending in your device, the better.

To find an approved center that will take care of the phone (and therefore send it to Samsung to change the film), a map is available on the Samsung site. This allows you to search in a radius more or less far from your home, or even your vacation spot, for example. We strongly advise you to call the approved repairers so that they can enlighten you on the possible cost of the exercise.
