In my hometown of DC, Juneteenth means cookouts, concerts and a gogo street festival that shuts down major arteries of the city. Picture more than 100,000 Black and brown bodies dancing in rhythm to pulsing bounce beats wherever they can find space.

Now mix in the smell of fried chicken wings, tangy bright-red mumbo sauce, body oils and a storm cloud of weed smoke. Welcome to DC.
