Director John Mossman knows a thing or two about the theory of good guns. As a lifelong hunter and target shooter, he has witnessed its ability to upset liberals and excite conservatives, becoming a trigger in the trigger again and again. This is one of the reasons he decided to use it as the title of his next film, which is currently being shot in the Lockport, Illinois and Chicago areas until Friday, September 3.

The Good Man with a Gun is a story of a young man trying to find his place in the world. The search began when his father was violently killed in Chicago and he and his mother moved to the country. He made the wrong choice, endured life-threatening consequences, and of course, he still had a gun. According to Mosman, he is also the author of the script, which is "a Midwestern boy's journey into the dark center".

"But it has its charm," he added. "This is really an adult story, a family drama, a rural noir film about a woman and her son."

Mossman is a Chicago-based director, writer, editor, actor, Columbia University lecturer and co-founder of The Artistic Home Theatre Company. He has won dozens of honors, including a number of best film festival awards for his 2012 feature film "Into The Wake," which the Chicago Journal described as "full throttle, wilderness horror/ "Thriller", as you can see with your own eyes in this preview...

The violence Mosman witnessed on TV during the January 6th Washington, D.C. Uprising triggered a three-day creative frenzy during which he completed the script of "The Good Man with a Gun"...

"I had to free it from my chest, my shoulders, my mind, because this is something I have been thinking about for years," Mosman recalled. "I want to expose the fallacy that good people with guns have a doomsday view: if you hold a gun and use it, your life will be different forever. It will hurt your psychology."

The things he has been considering mainly involve "a new phenomenon in which people deliberately intimidate others with guns in public." The stories he wrote include "seeing a glimmer of hope in the regret, guilt, and repentance they endured because of their behavior."

Mossman won't reveal exactly what actions led to the guilt and confession in the movie, but he promised that they will bring a hint of suspense, introspection, humor and at least a twist. "Going into the center of darkness, the darkness you make yourself, is very interesting," he said. "Until it is not."

The atmosphere of the story will be similar to those depicted in movies such as "Salvation", "A Simple Plan", "Bone of Winter" and "Apocalypse Now"-"Try to hide your actions, because you will always be watching behind ."

Let’s take a quick look back at the nervous natural thriller "Winter’s Bones" starring Jennifer Lawrence and John Hawkes, winner of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival Jury Award and Waldo Salter Award for Screenwriting... …

Most of the filming will take place in the HellsGate Haunted House, a 60-acre quarry, pond, woods, trails, paintball shooting range, and a haunted house in Lockport, Illinois. The location is owned and managed by actor/filmmaker John LaFlamboy (Days of the Living Dead), who also plays the role of a police officer in The Good Man.

The "dream lineup" of Mosman's cast; Pasquesi, Barford, and Swanberg highlight ensemble

The headlines of veterans and newcomers will help Mosman play the above charm in "The Good Guy with Guns." Baker Nolan, a second-year student at DePaul University, plays the young Will Greenwood, a "kind, smart, and sensitive kid" who is struggling to cope with "all the anger, fear and sadness he feels-like many 16-year-olds Like a child", along with newcomer Jack Kane, who plays the teenage Jonah. Stage play veteran Tiffany Bedwell plays his mother Tessa. She is "a cynic, super cool city resident". When she faced a crisis related to her son, she "discovered her inner villain."

Joe Swanberg is best known in Chicago circles for his work as an independent gem director, such as "Merry Christmas" at the Sundance Film Festival and the favorite drinking partner of SXSW critics, he stands Play Tom Greenwood in front of the camera, he is the father, husband and, according to Mosman, "the original good guy without a gun."

Other famous actors include Chicago impromptu legend David Pascius (also a frequent visitor of the Veep series) as the town lawyer; Steppenwolf band member Ian Barford (Linda Vista) as the local father; Mosman is an evil instigator. He "represents the corroded, angry, and hot computing core in the movement." Mossman called this lineup "dream" and praised "the great Claire Simon" for putting it together.

Mosman hired Chris Lane as the director of photography. Chris Lane was a "diligence team crossing rivers, swamps and cliffs" when filming "Into the Wake." A member of the. He hopes to lock the picture at the end of the year, and then convert the color into something similar to "David Lynch and Joseph Conrad live in the house painted by Norman Rockwell".

Producers include Kevin Cooper (Second-hand Lions), Deanna Cooper (Miss Arizona) and the aforementioned John Laframboi. PY Films producer Patrick Richter and production manager Yajaira Marie and production designer Emmy Weldon formed a team.

Complex relationship with guns and NRA

Since the main plot point relies on incidents involving guns, Mosman has taken measures to ensure the health of his actors and staff during the production process. "Everyone has talked to me about their history and feelings about using guns," he said. "Some people have a very complicated relationship with it."

Among the people in the complex group is Mosman himself. Undoubtedly, as a passionate gun owner, he also described himself as a "steep opponent of the NRA."

“The first NRA course I took when I was 12 was in the basement of our Methodist Church,” he recalled. "Then my father took me to a quarry in Baraboo, Wisconsin, to shoot (that is, do it yourself)." The father and son shot cans with small-caliber, single-action bolt rifles—"The kind that kids can learn correctly, "He explained.

"Then," he continued, "my father took out an old Colt pistol and told me there was only one reason for this gun: to kill."

Although he described that moment as a "dark memory," he said that the film provided key revelations for something more powerful. "If America is a family, it is a broken family; but I firmly believe that we can come together and help each other through the dark times."

Of course, some characters in Good Guy With A Gun disagree with these views. In order to understand them better, Mosman went to the matrix of "those who hoard and arm themselves for the day when everything collapses": the Internet.

"I spent several years dealing with the online, mainly white "pro-gun" crowd," he said. "You won't believe how cruel they are to me; but I found that if I call up a few reputable friends, such as the SEALs, they will leave."

Although the title has a lot of research and meaning, Mosman insists that the movie has "nothing to do with guns." Instead, he said that the audience should expect to receive a greater, more unified and rather unexpected message.

"This is a growth story. No one is purely a good person or a bad person. The characters reveal a deeper level of complexity than people think. They will eventually find out who they are," he said. "We live in a gray area. There is no white hat or black hat. Our soul pays for different ideas. But even in the darkest journey, we can show ourselves better."

"The Good Guy" is currently being filmed in Illinois and will end later this month. As the movie progresses, please check for updates on SCREEN and focus on the release date target for early 2022.
